After Your Child's Filling
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s dental care! Please
follow these instructions to keep them safe and comfortable after today’s visit.
While They Are Still Numb
-
Your child’s cheek, lips, and tongue may feel “funny” or tingly for 2–4 hours.
-
Watch closely so they don’t bite, chew, or scratch the numb area.
-
Give only soft foods until the numbness wears off. Avoid crunchy or chewy snacks.
Eating & Drinking
-
Once the numb feeling is gone, your child may eat normally.
-
Start with gentle foods (applesauce, yogurt, scrambled eggs, soup, etc.) if they are sore.
-
Encourage plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Comfort & Healing
-
Mild tenderness or sensitivity is normal for a few days.
-
Natural comfort options:
-
Arnica (tablets or cream) can help with soreness.
-
Warm saltwater rinse (if they’re old enough to rinse and spit).
-
-
If needed, children’s acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be given as directed.
