After Your Whitening Appointment
Thank you for choosing Midway Family Dental for your whitening treatment! Your smile is now brighter, but the first 24–48 hours are especially important for protecting your results and minimizing sensitivity.
What to Expect
-
Some patients experience temporary tooth sensitivity or gum tenderness after whitening. This usually improves within a few days.
-
Your teeth are more porous immediately after whitening, which means they can absorb stains more easily for the next 48 hours.
Eating & Drinking
For the first 48 hours, follow a “white diet” to protect your whitening results:
-
Safe foods/drinks: chicken, fish, rice, pasta, potatoes, cauliflower, bananas, apples, water, milk, coconut water.
-
Avoid: coffee, tea, red wine, soda, berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce, dark chocolate, and anything that would stain a white shirt.
Sensitivity & Comfort
-
Mild sensitivity is normal and should decrease within a few days.
-
Natural support:
-
Arnica may help if your gums feel sore.
-
Coconut oil pulling can soothe tissue and freshen the mouth.
-
-
If needed, a sensitivity toothpaste or fluoride-free remineralizing paste can help. CrystLCare Sensitivity Strips can be great also.
-
Avoid very hot or cold foods and drinks until sensitivity improves.
Caring for Your Bright Smile
-
Brush and floss gently to keep teeth clean without irritation.
-
Stay hydrated — drinking plenty of water helps prevent staining.
-
Avoid smoking or vaping, as these can quickly discolor teeth.
-
Consider touch-up whitening (custom trays or touch-up pens) as recommended to maintain results.
