After Your Crown Appointment

Today, your tooth was prepared for a crown. An impression (or scan) was taken, and a temporary crown was placed to protect your tooth until the permanent crown is ready. Please follow these instructions to keep your tooth comfortable and your temporary crown secure.

While You Are Still Numb

  • Be careful not to bite, chew, scratch, or burn your lips, cheeks, or tongue.

  • Avoid eating solid foods until the numbness completely wears off (usually 2–4 hours).

With Your Temporary Crown

  • Chewing: Avoid very sticky, chewy, or hard foods (gum, taffy, nuts, ice, etc.) that could loosen or break the temporary crown.

  • Side of Mouth: Try to chew on the opposite side when possible.

  • Flossing: You may floss gently, but pull the floss out to the side instead of snapping it upward to prevent loosening the temporary.

  • If It Comes Off: If your temporary crown comes loose or falls out, call us right away. If needed, you may place it back with a small amount of toothpaste until we see you.

Sensitivity & Discomfort

  • It is normal to have some tenderness around the gum and sensitivity to temperature or pressure for a few days.

  • Natural support: Arnica may help with soreness. Warm saltwater rinses can soothe gum tissue.

  • Avoid using essential oils directly on gums or teeth without dilution.

  • If needed, over-the-counter pain relief (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) may be used as directed.

Supporting Healing

  • Eat a diet rich in whole foods to support tissue healing.

  • Stay well hydrated.

  • Gentle oral care: Brush normally but carefully around the temporary crown.
