After Your Tooth Extraction with Bone Grafting
At Midway Family Dental, we follow a biologic, holistic approach for extractions. The site was thoroughly debrided to remove infection, granulation tissue, and periodontal ligament, then cleansed with ozone water. A bone graft and membrane were placed to support healing and future restoration. The area was closed with silk sutures, which will be removed in 7–10 days when we check healing.
What to Expect
-
Mild bleeding or oozing for the first 24 hours is normal.
-
Some swelling and tenderness can occur for several days.
-
Sutures may feel tight or slightly irritating until removed.
-
A gritty or sandy sensation may occasionally be felt if tiny graft particles loosen — this is normal.
Care for the Extraction & Graft Site
-
Keep pressure with gauze for 30–45 minutes after leaving our office.
-
Do not spit, use a straw, or smoke for at least 5 days.
-
Eat soft, nourishing foods and chew away from the surgical site. Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods until healing progresses.
-
Brush your other teeth normally but avoid brushing directly over the grafted area. Use a very gentle rinse (ozonated or saltwater) after 24 hours if advised.
-
Do not pull at your lip or cheek to “look at” the graft site — this may loosen the membrane or sutures.
Natural Healing Support
-
Arnica may reduce soreness, swelling, and bruising.
-
Warm saltwater rinses after the first 24 hours can promote comfort.
-
Whole foods and vitamins (vitamin C, D, zinc, magnesium) support bone healing.
-
Red light therapy can help with circulation and recovery.
-
Gentle rest, hydration, and nutrient-dense meals are essential for proper healing.
Follow-Up
-
You will return in 7–10 days for suture removal and to check healing.
-
Please keep this appointment even if you are feeling well.
