After Your Extraction
At Midway Family Dental, we use a holistic approach for extractions. We carefully remove all infection, granulation tissue, and periodontal ligament from the site and thoroughly cleanse with ozone water to support healing. If sutures were placed, they are resorbable and will dissolve on their own.
What to Expect
-
Mild bleeding or oozing is normal for the first 24 hours.
-
Some swelling and tenderness is expected and should improve within 3-5 days.
-
You may notice slight bruising, which should fade as healing progresses.
Care for the Extraction Site
-
Keep firm pressure on the gauze for 30–45 minutes after leaving our office. Replace if bleeding continues.
-
Do not spit, use a straw, or smoke for 3–5 days — this can dislodge the clot and cause dry socket.
-
Eat soft, nourishing foods for the first 2–3 days (soups, smoothies, scrambled eggs, steamed veggies). Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods.
-
Brush your teeth gently, avoiding the extraction area for the first 24 hours. Resume gentle brushing near the area after 1 day.
Natural Healing Support
-
Arnica may help with soreness, swelling, and bruising.
-
Warm saltwater rinses (after 24 hours) can soothe tissue and support healing.
-
Whole foods and supportive vitamins (especially vitamin C, D, zinc, and magnesium) help your body heal.
-
Red light therapy may support tissue repair and circulation.
-
Stay hydrated and rest. Healing takes energy.
